Yanagimori Shrine


Yanagimori shrine is a small Shinto shrine located beside the Kanda-gawa River.

It takes about five minutes from JR Akihabara station to the shrine on foot.




There are statues of racoon dogs in the pricinct of the shrine.

Early-blooming Cherry Blossoms at Ebara Shrine



Ebara shrine is a Shinto shrine located Kita-Shinagawa, Shinagawa-ward.
Two Hikan-zakura, a variety of early-blooming cherry tree, are planted at the shrine.
When I visited there yesterday, those were almost in full bloom.

View of Yushima-Seido




Yushima-Seido is a Confucian temple located in the Yushima neighborhood.
I took these photos near the northern end of Hijiri-bashi which is a bridge on Kanda-gawa River.
From this angle, you can realize that the temple was designed utilizing the height difference of the land.

Kaizando Ryodaishi in Cherry Blossom Time







Kaizando Ryodaishi is a Buddhist temple which is next to Tokyo National Museum located in Ueno park, and it was a part of Kaneiji temple.

In cherry blossom viewing time, Ueno park is very crowded, but that temple is calm.

Ume Blossoms in the Cloudy Morning at Yushima Tenjin Shrine






I visited Yushima Tenjin Shrine last Monday to view Ume blossoms.
I got there around 8 A.M. and it was cloudy, so the grounds of the shrine was calm.

Ueno Toshogu Shrine in the Cherry Blossoms Season





Ueno Park is one of the most popular cherry blossoms viewing spot in Tokyo, and Ueno Toshogu Shrine located in the park is crowded in the cherry blossoms season.
There are many food stalls along the shrine approach in the season.

Ueno Toshogu Shrine on the Snowy Friday Morning




I went to Ueno Toshogu Shrine on a snowy morning in order to take photos of winter peonies in the snow.
I got to the shrine around nine, but the peony garden in the shrine open at nine thirty.
Befor the garden open, I walked around the shrine, and I had a different impression to when I had ever visited there.
There were a few visitors in the shrine.
In the snow, structures and the approach of the shrine were far more beautiful and fantastic than I had anticipated.

Golden Shrine




The shrine structure of Ueno Toshogu was built in 1651, and survived both the great kanto earthquake of 1923 and world war 2.
The shrine structure is also called golden shrine, because all the pillars and doors are gilded with gold foil.

Karamon Gate at Ueno Toshogu Shrine Late in Autumn



If you walk along the approach from the entrance of Ueno Toshogu shrine, you will faced to the gate.
That gate is called "Karamon".
In late autumn,  not only the gate but also leaves around the gate are colorful.

This bridge was built in 1618, and it is oledest remaining stone bridge in Tokyo.
You can see beautiful varicolored carp in the pond under the bridge.

Wood Carvings at Shibamata Taishakuten Temple





There is a temple hall named Taishakudo in Shibamata Taishakuten temple.
Outer walls of the hall are decorated with many beautiful carvings.
Especially, ten carved wood panels set on the walls are stunning.
Those are scenes in the stories from Lotus Sutra.
